My son Matthew

Eileen Canavan :

Hello former classmates and old friends- I haven't kept in touch with most of you since heading south to Texas back in 1979, after graduating from Yale early- just kidding, but this was in my Senior WAC bio back in 1977.

I hope most of you are doing well and enjoying life each day at a time. When I read that some of our classmates are no longer with us it saddened me. Time has marched on relentlessly. My own son, Matthew, has just graduated from a college prep school in Virginia. Makes me feel kinda old but I am very proud of him. He is my greatest accomplishment. He will be attending either the University of Texas at Dallas or Texas A&M this fall. Rice University was truly an option for him, but it is in Houston and just too far away for me.

I have been busy raising Matthew and working on my career. Up until recently I worked at Nortel Networks (telecommunications). I was lucky enough to have one of my former boss' from Nortel, who was laid off two years earlier, hire me at TD Industries (commercial construction). I am doing the same type of work at TD and enjoy it - most days. I am a Project Manager of business improvements. Basically, I facilitate teams of business experts and together we work to define, measure, analyze, improve and control both product and processes within the company.

I am glad to hear that many of you also enjoy your life's work and have wonderful spouses/ families and children to support you. Texas has been good to me and is now the place I call home. I also love the weather here too- but when it snows in Texas the whole town comes to a complete halt.

Up until about 7 years ago, I was an active equestrian riding for both pleasure and competition. My horse Boogie, broke his leg in a trailer accident and I just could not get back into it after that. I am involved with Equest (a handicapped riding program) and I coordinated the Nortel Networks volunteer efforts when I was working there.

I have also been involved with Civil Air Patrol (an auxiliary of the US Air Force) with my 18 year old son- Matthew. For now the house and the new job are keeping me very busy these days. I have a passion for art and redecorating and I am almost "done" with the house we live in now. Time to redo another one soon.

I am single and live with my son, a dog and a cat in Plano, Texas, a suburb of Dallas. I'd love to hear from my fellow WAC classmates. I have some real WACcky pictures of some of you and of our senior wall in the "Photo Memories" section of this site.

I am not sure I will be able to attend the reunion (due to business travel) but will try my best to make it. I have fond memories of West Allis Central High School. My folks and many of my brothers and sisters still live in the area. I just returned from Wisconsin for my parents 50th wedding anniversary celebration in February. We all made it home and had a wonderful time together.

Please feel free to email me at home: eileencanavan@aol.com or work: eileen.canavan@tdindustries.com I'd love to hear from y'all.

Best regards to all,

Eileen
